Dynamic or not?

Postby Nero » Thu Jul 29, 2010 1:37 pm

Am updating my site right now and I just thought I'd ask what you think is best, dynamic pages or not.

I don't know which one loads faster, to me they seem to load at about the same speed, depends on the content to I guess.

Anyways, if someone could just give some pros and cons to dynamic and non-dynamic pages (Static I believe...?))

I would use an awesome signature image but it's over 90px high so no I can't...

the big advantage is that to change the style of a site you dont have to edit one file for each page it has.

It can also be easier to update content if you have a complicated style, but that really depends how you do it.

In terms of speed it should be exactly the same, as the html that is sent to the browser will be the same as static (yup :) ) pages. The only slow down would be form the tiny php overhead, but if you notice that you need a new host.

I prefer dynamic over static.

unusually my sites have quote a bit of php behind them anyway, so dynamic pages is not so much of a problem to add.

I guess if you have static content already, it could be a bit of a pain to make it all dynamic for seemingly no reason.

I think I'll make the "homepage/newspage" static cause of the news...
And then I'll have another file with dynamic stuffies.
